Bringing Calm to Your Cash Flow: Meet Cortney Kaveh of Northwest Money Coaching

Some networking meetings come with an especially lovely view! I recently spent a beautiful fall afternoon with Cortney Kaveh of Northwest Money Coaching, enjoying wine tastings, delicious charcuterie, and the Durant vineyards near McMinnville, Oregon.

We also had a wonderful conversation about our businesses, the clients we love serving, and how our work fits together. I left excited to introduce Cortney to clients and readers who could benefit from her approach to managing money.

Who does Cortney help?

Cortney specializes in helping couples and small business owners, with a particular passion for self-employed couples navigating unpredictable income. She helps partners communicate about money, agree on priorities, and create practical systems for their business and household finances.

If you’re self-employed, you probably know the feeling: a strong month brings a little breathing room, then a slower month leaves you wondering how much you can afford to pay yourself—or whether you’ve set enough aside for taxes.

Add two people with different money habits or priorities, and those decisions can become stressful.

Cortney helps clients bring structure to that “wild cash flow” so they can make decisions with more confidence.

What does working with her look like?

During our conversation, Cortney described a typical coaching engagement that includes one-hour meetings every other week for about five months. That ongoing relationship gives clients time to put new habits into practice, ask questions, and adjust as real life happens.

Depending on their goals, clients may work on:

  • Creating a realistic spending plan.

  • Building savings and preparing for irregular expenses.

  • Developing a plan to pay down debt.

  • Improving communication about money as a couple.

  • Separating business needs from household needs.

  • Establishing a system for owner’s pay, tax savings, and operating expenses.

For business owners, she described using a Profit First–style approach to give incoming money a purpose before it gets spent.

What I especially appreciated was her emphasis on small, realistic changes. It’s easy to start an overly ambitious budget, struggle to maintain it, and feel discouraged. Her focus is on helping clients build habits they can actually sustain.

Cortney is also a YNAB Certified Coach for those who want help using the budgeting software. She welcomes clients of all backgrounds and can incorporate Christian faith into coaching when requested. Although based in Oregon, she works with clients online across the country.

How financial coaching fits with tax support

At Casler Financial, I help clients understand their tax obligations, evaluate tax decisions, and prepare their returns. Cortney’s coaching can complement that work by helping clients follow through with their everyday money habits.

For example, knowing how much you should set aside for estimated taxes is one step. Creating a routine that helps you consistently save that money is another.

Having support with both can make running a business feel much more manageable.
